NicThic Cinemation Studios is an American animation studio that is based in Indianapolis, Indiana and is a division of NicThic Productions. The studio houses a total of ten offices in Fort Wayne, Lafayette, South Bend, Terre Haute, Evansville, Kokomo, Bloomington, Elkhart (all in Indiana), and Carmel (in California), including its main office in Indianapolis.

History Edit

In November 2011, it was announced that NicThic Productions would launch a new division named NicThic Cinemation Studios, which would rely on other animation studios to provide animation on its films, with its new studio in Indianapolis only having about 30 employees at the time. The studio was intended to be a competitor and rival of DisneyToon Studios until its closure on June 28th, 2018; eventually, they would compete against Walt Disney Animation Studios and its own allies (such as FoxToons Animation Studios and Studio Town Studios) and rivals (such as Pixar Animation Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Universal Animation Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, Twentieth Century Animation, Paramount Animation, Blue Sky Studios, and Sony Pictures Animation) as well.

NTCS also brought back the use of the Computer Animation Production System (CAPS), first used by FoxToons Animation Studios in 1910 and Walt Disney Animation Studios in 1989, in an effort to provide more digital ink and paint for traditionally animated films, with help from and partnership with Toon Boom Software. The first film to be animated using the new CAPS system was the 2013 reboot of Banjo the Woodpile Cat.

Prior to 2017, NicThic Cinemation Studios only opened offices throughout Indiana. In September 2013, the studio opened four offices, in Fort Wayne, Lafayette, South Bend, and Terre Haute, followed by Evansville and Kokomo in February 2014. A Bloomington office opened up in April 2015, followed by one in Elkhart in January 2016. An office in Carmel, California later opened in June 2017.
